Yes vote strengthens security of supply

Lausanne – Alpiq welcomes the clearly positive outcome of today's vote on the Electricity Act. The Swiss people have today clearly spoken out in favour of greater security of electricity supply from renewable and local energy sources at an affordable price.

The Swiss people have today voted by a clear majority of around 70% in favour of the Federal Act on the Security of Electricity Supply from Renewable Energy Sources. Alpiq welcomes this result and is grateful to the Swiss people for demonstrating their support for a secure, renewable and local electricity supply.

The Electricity Act provides the necessary instruments to drive forward the generational project of transforming our energy system. It strengthens the development of renewable energies and winter power generation. "On behalf of Alpiq, I would like to thank the Swiss people for enabling us to move forward together and with determination. The transformation of our energy system is a task for all of us, because a secure and affordable supply of electricity is the backbone of our economy and our society," said Antje Kanngiesser, CEO of Alpiq. The way is now clear for the rapid implementation of projects that will secure our country's energy supply. Alpiq's priority is to work with its partners to implement the Round Table projects in which it is involved: the Gornerli and Oberaletsch projects as well as the raising of the Emosson, Moiry and Sambuco dams.
