Lavorgo-Mettlen power line of Atel Transmission Ltd.

Atel Transmission Ltd. will be busy around Morschach on Lake Lucerne this summer, replacing 17 support masts along the power line from Lavorgo to Mettlen. Pylon replacement work is scheduled from mid-May until late October 2006, at a cost of around 11 million francs.

New pylons in Central Switzerland

The 380 kV power line between Lavorgo and Mettlen was first built in 1948/49. Despite rigorous maintenance since then, corrosion and aging have now reached the point where the pylons will have to be replaced. Atel Transmission Ltd. is carrying out the work in phases. Up for replacement this summer are a total of 17 pylons along a 5-kilometre stretch of ultra-high voltage line between Sisikon and Ingenbohl, at the foot of the Fronalpstock. New pylons will mostly be erected on the same sites as their predecessors and built slightly taller on the whole, to increase ground and tree clearance. The replacement supports will bring greater operational reliability and better protection from non-ionising radiation. While construction work is in progress from mid-May to late October 2006, the 380 kV Lavorgo-Mettlen power line will be temporarily routed via the parallel line operated by CKW. It is planned to replace all of the line supports between Ingenbohl (canton Schwyz) and Udligenswil (canton Lucerne) over the coming years.
