New subsidiary in Germany
Atel is one of the major foreign providers of electrical energy in Germany today and it has now opened its own sales company there, the Offenburg-based Atel Energie AG founded on 21 June this year. The new company is responsible for customer business with town and municipal services as well as with major industrial and commercial customers. The Offenburg subsidiary is headed by Dr. Claus-Eric Gärtner, assisted by a staff of six for the moment. Gärtner was previously responsible for sales in Germany from Atel's head office in Switzerland. The move is aimed at enhancing Atel's position in the German electricity market. The new company is a wholly owned subsidiary of Atel in Olten (Switzerland).
Atel, the parent facility, is an electricity trading company that operates throughout Europe, particularly in Italy, Germany, Switzerland as well as Central and Eastern Europe. Atel's second pillar business is the energy service market. In mid-July it took over GAH, the German energy provider. The Atel Group employs around 8,000 staff and has an annual turnover of approximately CHF 3 billion. Aare-Tessin Ltd. for Electricity Corporate Communications
