Alpiq puts the gigantic greetings card in place

What in all probability is the largest greetings card in the world is finally in place: The almost 2700 square meter canvas, printed with 3645 good wishes from Swiss winter sports fans, has today been hung on the Lac de Cleuson dam in the Valais Alps. The energy services provider Alpiq is the initiator of this unique event.

After months of planning and preparation work, the time at last came today: The greetings card with 3645 messages from winter sports fans was transported to the dam, unloaded and rolled out. Experienced mountaineers had previously installed a steel wire rope framework and subsequently the canvas was fixed to it using eye bolts, and slowly lowered and fixed into position.

The result of the action planned by the energy services company Alpiq is impressive: Thanks to its extraordinary dimensions of 43 metres in height and 63 metres in width, the support messages for the Swiss winter sports athletes on the Lac de Cleuson dam in the Four Valleys ski region can be seen from many miles away in the whole region. At the same time the unique greetings card has a chance of being recorded in the "Guinness World Records". Alpiq has already submitted an application for this.

Swiss snow sports have a great significance Thousands of snow sport fans made an entry on the Web site www.fanpower.ch between the middle of December 2009 and the middle of January 2010. „Hopp hopp hopp – you are all top“, „For all of you – we hope the best“ or „Whether in the air or in the races, we wish you all the very best places“ are just some of the good wishes that confirm the great significance of winter sports in Switzerland. With good wishes from previous ski or bob stars such as Sonja Nef, Michael von Grünigen, Steve Locher or Martin Annen, world champion support is also ensured.

From the dam onto shopping bags From today until the middle of March 2010, the unique greetings card will hang on the Lac de Cleuson dam at 2000 Metres above sea level. Subsequently each of the greetings messages will be converted into stylish shopping bags that the fans will be able to order on the Web site www.fanpower.ch.

The participation in this unique good wishes action has already paid off for some of the fans, since anyone who placed a good wish on the 2700 square metre greetings card automatically took part in a competition. The attractive main prize was a VIP week end for two at the World Cup final 2010 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. Additionally Alpiq raffled off ten times two day-tickets for the Four Valleys ski region.
