Alpiq installs Tesla Supercharger at the A1/A2 motorway junction

Zurich – A further step towards a nationwide network of charging stations for electric vehicles in Switzerland. Alpiq E-Mobility has planned and constructed a Tesla Supercharger with six charging stations at the Mövenpick Hotel in Egerkingen. In addition, Alpiq installed an EVite fast charging station. The charging stations at the A1/A2 motorway junction were put into operation on 15 August 2014.

A dense charging infrastructure network is crucial for the further development of electromobility. In cooperation with Tesla and the Mövenpick Hotel in Egerkingen, Alpiq E-Mobility AG has installed so-called Superchargers for Tesla cars. In just some 30 minutes, these can charge the cars' batteries to 50% of their capacity. In the role of general contractor, Alpiq was responsible for the complete process of designing, planning and installing the charging infrastructure. With the new Supercharger, Elon Musk, the owner and CEO of Tesla Motors, fulfils his promise to establish a European network. The new charging stations at the road traffic hub Egerkingen form an important part of this network in Switzerland.

Next to the Superchargers, Alpiq installed a three-in-one fast charging station that can charge any type of electric car. This station was funded by the Zurich Insurance Company AG. It is part of the EVite project, which has the aim of establishing a Switzerland-wide network of fast charging stations. Alpiq is a co-founder of this project.

From the very beginning, the Mövenpick Hotel supported the construction of the station immediately next to the motorway. "Environmentally conscious thinking and acting has always defined the history of the Mövenpick Hotels. In this sense, the construction of the charging stations for electric vehicles is more than just a service for our customers," explains Ute Dirks, General Manager in Egerkingen. For Peter Arnet, Managing Director of Alpiq E-Mobility AG, electrically powered vehicles have long since become a part of daily business: "With our claim, "In charge of E-Mobility", we express our responsibility for safe and correct charging, but also for the responsible use of resources."

With the newly installed charging infrastructure Alpiq clearly demonstrates its expertise in this field. Within the context of the new strategy, the company is transforming from a capital intensive power producer to an energy service provider with innovative, full-service solutions. With the charging station for electric vehicles, Alpiq also distinguishes itself as a specialist service provider for integrated infrastructure solutions including planning, installation and maintenance. Additional charging stations are already in the planning stage.
