On 16 May 2019, Alpiq Ltd. signed an agreement with Sev.en Zeta a.s. (CZ), a member of the Sev.en Energy Group, for the sale of Alpiq Generation (CZ) s.r.o., the owner of the two Czech coal-fired power plants Kladno and Zlín. The Czech competition authority has granted its approval, and the divestment has been successfully completed. The transaction will result in a net cash inflow of approximately EUR 250 million (approx. CHF 270 million) for Alpiq. With this transaction, Alpiq has achieved the optimal result. The three defined sales criteria – price, transaction security and contractual conditions – were met cumulatively.
Alpiq massively reduces CO2 emissions of its power plant portfolio
The divestment took place against the backdrop of an increasingly decarbonised, digitalised and decentralised energy world. With the sale, Alpiq is reducing the carbon footprint of its power plant portfolio by more than 60 percent and now no longer operates any lignite power plants. Alpiq intends to use the proceeds from the transaction to develop its high-growth fields of business and further optimise its balance sheet.
